The Grey Horse Pub, Kingston.
For all the ardent Phans who were not happy with a mere half
hour of Pheltstock Phestival Phants, the following evening at
the Grey Horse saw their chance to satisfy their full 2 hour
Phantom fix! When this gig was first arranged it seemed like a
good idea, but following the exertions of the previous day the
band were having second thoughts after all waking up the next
morning knackered, bleary eyed & in some cases without a voice!
But after a days lounging around & a trip to Boots to stock up
on ‘Vocalzone’ (recommended
to help relieve throat irritation if you have been talking,
singing or smoking excessively) the boys reconvened in
Kingston, reinvigorated and ready to
rock! Welsh Wizard Roger Henderson started the evening off in
the front bar going down a storm & so after several encores it
was the Phantoms turn. This time round, the boys had shuffled
the pack a bit swapping some of the usual crowd pleasers with a
few old classics from the back catalogue whilst adding 3 great
new tunes, Parklife (débuted the previous day & going down just
as well again), Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (which was
an inevitable choice after coming up with the gig poster idea) &
Blondie’s One Way or Another (featuring the guest vocal talents
of Louisa Biggs). Thanks for helping out Louisa as I’m sure the
Phants ravaged voices wouldn’t have stood up to those high notes
on their own! Thanks to all of you that came along, congrats to
comp winner Tony who seemed to enjoy his prize & see you all
again in just under 3 months time. What a great weekend!
The Phantoms were: Mark Gibson (lead
vocals & keys), Kevin Rogers (guitar), Jason Biggs (guitar & vocals),
Jon Novice (bass & vocals), Alun Westoll (drums
& vocals) & special guest Louisa Biggs (vocals).
