#65. Alley Cat Club, Denmark Street, London. 12.12.13.

The Alley Cat Club

The Alley Cat sits just beneath the fabled Regent Sound Studios which was set up at 4 Denmark Street in 1963. With the Rolling Stones recording their first album there, The Kinks recording ‘You Really Got Me’, Black Sabbath recording ‘Paranoid’ as well as many other seminal moments of music history, the studio took off as the place to be seen to be making music. Now it was the turn of The Phantoms! Playing support to the brilliant JB & The Wolfmen at this historic London venue. And what a fantastic end to the year it was! In front of a small but appreciative audience, Clarabella & The Crypt Kicker 4 got the night underway with Clarabella going on the demonstrate some impressive moves. Next up, the Phantoms. With the band just getting into their stride our lead singer once again vanished mid song, this time disappearing only 1½ songs into the set! Apparently it wasn’t a good idea to eat a massive Chinese meal right before the gig! [Won Kei’s in case you are wondering]. But after an extremely speedy pit stop he was back to help the band rip through a short (but sweet) set consisting mainly of old school punk classics, aptly including the previously mentioned Kinks song (you can’t say the Phantoms don’t do their research)! Even the smokers out in the cold didn’t miss any of the show as they got to see the band on the outside TV! MTV? Probably not! Also, apologies to the Feltham contingent who showed up just as the Phantoms had finished their set! So with your favourite covers band done it was left to the Wolfmen to round things off. Thanks to them for inviting the band to play at this great new venue & huge thanks to all of you that have come along & supported the band during 2013. We look forward to hopefully seeing you again sometime/somewhere in 2014! Merry Christmas & happy new year!

The Phantoms were: Mark Gibson (lead vocals), Kevin Rogers (guitar), Jason Biggs (guitar), Jon Novice (bass) & Alun Westoll (drums).
