#108. The Hampton Hub Club, Hampton. 10.12.21.

The (Ph)estive Phantoms were making their debut appearance (alongside our mates Go Go Juice) at the fantastic Hampton Hub Club in, err, Hampton.
Before the gig whilst sound checking, the Phantoms tried out a song we had not played in many a year, ‘Daydream Believer’ by the Monkees & were very soon after to find out that Mike Nesmith [guitarist in the Monkees] had sadly just died!” Blimey. Hope he would have enjoyed our unwitting tribute.
So, co-headlining the evening with Go Go Juice, the Phantoms kicked off proceedings and instantly had the dance floor packed full of revellers well up for a good time. And the Phantoms next hour & a bit gave them little opportunity to sit back down as the upbeat floor fillers came thick and fast, ranging from early Beatles, to 70’s punk & disco, through to classic 80’s fave’s & culminating in a sack full of Christmas party bangers.
After a quick trip to Poundland earlier that day, our singer distributed Santa hats as far as his feeble throwing abilities could manage, cued up the sleigh bells & let rip on the Phantoms festive finale. First up was a punky version of ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’, followed by new song, Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’, which went down a (snow) storm. Consider yourself “Whammed” Hampton. Then it was time for Shakey’s ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ before bringing the first half of the night to a close with the king of xmas classics ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’ by Slade. Well after all, “IT’S CHRISTMASSSSSSSSSSSS”!
With the job done the Phantoms joined the crowd (both by the bar & on the dancefloor) to enjoy the remainder of the evening as the funk, soul & disco strains of Go Go Juice entertained the crowd long into the night.
Thanks to the fantastic crowd for doing their bit to support fantastic live music venues like the Hampton Hub during these difficult times. Thanks to the aforementioned Hampton Hub for hosting such a great evening. Thanks to Go Go Juice for joining the Phantoms in their seasonal climax & especially thank you to the FGSSA & CSSC for supporting this event.
Merry Christmas, happy new year. x

The Phantoms were: Mark Gibson (lead vocals & keys), Kevin Rogers (guitar), Jason Biggs (guitar & vocals), Jon Novice (bass & vocals) & Alun Westoll (drums & vocals).
