#99. The General Roy, Feltham. 3.8.19.

A fantastic afternoon/evening at the General Roy Garden Party saw the Phantoms playing their 99th gig to date! The sun shone & the Phantoms duly delivered 3 hours of live music, making good on their promise to play until it got dark.
The boys enjoyed a pleasing opening set entertaining a packed pub garden, the majority of whom were tapping their feet & singing along nicely.
Set 2 saw pub local Shelly & Nancy (the Landlady’s lovely daughter) getting the dancing underway as the band were joined by first guest of the night, good mate Sam on keyboards. With both of his contributions (Twist & Shout/Johnny B Goode) going down a treat with the live music loving crowd.
Next up, Shelly was lured inside the tent (I say ‘lured’, she didn’t take much encouraging!) to add a welcome bit of glamour (& tambourine) to the usual Phantom line-up for a cover of ‘Use Somebody’ by the Kings of Leon.
With the band then energised during the break thanks to five of the General Roy’s finest burgers, the Phantoms then proceeded to mosh through an action packed final set as the sun descended.
Hit after hit were to follow but the band had saved the best till (very nearly) last. Joined onstage by everyone’s favourite Roy barmaid, Kris, for a rousing rendition of ‘Does Your Mother Know’ by ABBA. Great stuff Kris, next time though it may help if you learn the words!
So, as the sun set & the final notes wafted over the Feltham evening air, the Roy massive were whipped up to a frenzy by the closing number, ‘YMCA’ by the Village People. “It’s fun to stay at the GEN, ER, AL, ROY”! Follow that DJ Leeroi!

The Phantoms were: Mark Gibson (lead vocals & keys), Kevin Rogers (guitar), Jason Biggs (guitar & vocals), Jon Novice (bass & vocals) & Alun Westoll (drums & vocals).
